As the new variant Omicron which originated in South Africa and is spreading rapidly around the world, the Myanmar's health authorities have announced they are taking prompt measures to prevent it from entering the country.

Due to fact that Omicron variant is spreading rapidly around the world, Myanmar will do its' best to prevent this virus from entering the country, thus preventing another wave of the virus to hit its' people. People from the Omicron- hit areas will be prevented from entering Myanmar, and covid RT- PCR testing will be raised and at the same time, there will be systematic quarantine measures at the borders, and all preventives measures implemented. These were all discussed by the Union Health Minister at the meeting for the prevention, control and treatment of covid 19, at Naypyitaw on 29 November.

As the first wave came through the air flights, and the second wave through the borders, Myanmar is now carefully monitoring these two corridors and extra RT-PCR machines are being set-up at the border check points to systematically prevent new variant from entering Myanmar.
