Naypyidaw, 31 March 2025 – The State Administration Council (SAC) has declared a national mourning period following the catastrophic 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28 March at 12:51 PM Myanmar Standard Time.

The earthquake has resulted in a significant loss of life and widespread destruction, prompting the government to designate 31 March to 6 April 2025 as a period of national mourning. During this time, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country as a sign of respect and solidarity with the victims and affected communities.

The announcement was formally issued today with the signature of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister of Myanmar.
