Moscow, May 2025 – Galina Karelova, Chair of the Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum (EWF Council) and First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Self-Government, and Northern Affairs, met with Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, to discuss strengthening cooperation on advancing the women's agenda between Russia and Myanmar.

The meeting was part of the Myanmar delegation’s visit to Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic Victory.

According to the EWF Council, Senator Karelova expressed appreciation to Daw Kyu Kyu Hla for her engagement with the Eurasian Women’s Forum and acknowledged her active role in charitable work, education, healthcare, and initiatives that unite women, including those from military communities. Karelova also highlighted the significance of the First Lady’s video address to participants at the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum in 2024, describing it as substantive and widely appreciated.

Key projects and initiatives of the EWF Council were also presented during the discussion. Senator Karelova emphasized the importance of women’s involvement in expanding bilateral partnerships. She spotlighted the project “Women in High-Tech Industries: New Opportunities” as a platform to deepen intergovernmental cooperation on peaceful uses of atomic energy. She noted the potential for collaboration between women in the nuclear fields of both countries to promote public education in Myanmar on nuclear technology, radiation safety, and innovation, as well as to support capacity building in the sector.

More than 1,500 women from 42 countries have completed training through the “Woman Leader” program under the EWF Council’s educational initiatives. Karelova invited Myanmar women to join the next international cohort of the program.

In the area of entrepreneurship and global trade, the senator referenced the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance as a model for supporting female-led economic cooperation. She encouraged Myanmar's women leaders to explore opportunities within the Alliance and strengthen engagement with BRICS nations.

Senator Karelova also extended an official invitation to Daw Kyu Kyu Hla to participate in the upcoming forum-festival “Women for the Preservation of Traditions”, which will be hosted in Russia in autumn 2025.

Daw Kyu Kyu Hla welcomed the dialogue and reaffirmed Myanmar’s longstanding relationship with Russia. She noted that women’s cooperation can serve as a meaningful new dimension of bilateral ties and expressed gratitude for the EWF Council's warm reception and initiative.
