Yangon, 11 May 2025- Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister of Myanmar, has announced that he discussed the advancement of the China–Myanmar–Bangladesh Economic Corridor (CMBEC) with Chinese President Xi Jinping during an official meeting held in Moscow.

The meeting took place on May 9, while the Senior General was in Russia to attend the 80th Anniversary Commemoration of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945) at the invitation of the Russian government.

Speaking to local media during an in-flight interview on his return, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated that both sides exchanged views on implementing and upgrading the CMBEC, a strategic initiative designed to connect the three countries and foster economic and infrastructure development. The corridor is part of China’s broader One Belt One Road (OBOR) framework.

“Myanmar stands firmly in support of the OBOR initiative and will actively participate in its implementation,” he said, noting that this commitment was reaffirmed during talks with the Chinese President.

The Senior General also revealed that President Xi expressed his support for Myanmar’s plans to conduct a multi-party democratic general election, and encouraged the ongoing preparations being made by the Myanmar side.

On the humanitarian front, the Chinese leader also pledged continued assistance in post-earthquake recovery and reconstruction efforts in Myanmar, following recent natural disasters.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing described the discussion as productive and underscored that it had yielded “positive outcomes” for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Myanmar and China.

Mumbai, May 2, 2025 – Leveraging India's advanced media and entertainment technology through collaboration with content creators will significantly benefit countries facing technological disparities, including Myanmar, said Myanmar’s Deputy Minister of Information, U Ye Tint.

Deputy Minister U Ye Tint made these remarks during the Global Media Dialogue, a key session of the ongoing WAVES 2025 (World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit), held at the Jio World Center in Mumbai, India. The four-day international summit, which commenced on May 1, will conclude on May 4.

In his address, Deputy Minister U Ye Tint also expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Myanmar government and its people for the extensive support provided by the Indian government and public during the recent Mandalay earthquake disaster.

The Global Media Dialogue session was presided over by India's Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Sh. Ashwini Vaishnaw, and co-chaired by Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar. The session focused on India’s rapidly growing creative industries and explored strategic avenues for international cooperation in media and entertainment.

"Content creation and consumption in the media industry are rapidly evolving alongside technological advancements, reshaping the ways we tell stories," emphasized Minister Vaishnaw.

Minister Jaishankar added that there is an essential need for shifts in mindsets, frameworks, policies, and practices to meet the demands of a global workplace and workforce. He further noted WAVES as an ideal global platform dedicated to addressing critical issues in media and entertainment.

Delegates from 77 countries, including government officials, media professionals, audiovisual specialists, entertainment industry leaders, and business representatives, participated in the dialogue.

The event concluded with the announcement of the WAVES Declaration, a comprehensive 13-point statement highlighting "cross-border partnerships, co-productions, trade, and investments as avenues to expand opportunities and ensure media vitality and resilience."
